I am a 33 year old mom to 3 boys ages 12, 10 and 4 and have been married to my highschool sweetheart for 15 years this August.  I have been dealing with depression now for almost 12 years. 

 It started out when my husband was in the military and became very ill and went into a coma.  I almost lost him.  (To read or listen to my story about fighting depression go to Depression-My Story)

That was the time that my world turned upside down.  I no longer lived in a cloud that tragedy would never strike me. 

At the time my older boys were only 2 and 3 and we lived in Washington state miles and miles away from our family in Ohio.  I was alone, scared and very unsure of myself and what was going on in my surroundings.

After Brent was better and our family flew back home I was scared, would I be able to help Brent?  He was diagnosed with diabetes Type 1.  There was no case in his family of anyone having diabetes.  Over the months he went through several episodes where I would find him almost dead in bed because his sugar levels had dropped below the normal. 

Tending to 2 little boys and constantly worrying about if my husband would wake up the next morning I went months without sleep, not eating and not being able to cope with the stress I started becoming obsessive with the oddest things in the house.

The kids could be dirty, the kitchen a complete mess.  Dishes laying around for days, food piling up all over and the rest of the house looking like a tornado just went through.  All I could do was sit on the floor and scrub holes into the carpets because they were dirty.  I didn't see the dirt throughout the rest of the house, I didn't care all I cared about was that there was a spot in the carpet.

Brent ended up having to admit me to the hospital.  I was put on mild sedatives and mild anti-depressants.  After a few weeks I was back to normal and began seeing what anyone else could see if they were to have walked into my house!

Why am I telling you all this?  Because when I was diagnosed with depression it was a taboo to talk about, to be honest in some circles it still is considered to be a no-no to talk about.  People look at you like you are crazy.

It took a few years but I am finally able to deal with my depression, I now know the signs of when an impeding attack is going to happen.

I also learned a very important lesson I hope all moms learn.  YOU have to take time for yourselves, even if its only for 15 minutes a day!

Without taking that time to rejuvenate your body and soul you will become run down, become stressed, and many women want to just run away.

I have over the years learned ways to take just a few minutes a day, sometimes even an hour a day just for me!  I am now able to revive both my body and soul before I start walking down the path of destruction again. 

I am in no way perfect, just recently I ignored my own advice and became more involved in things besides taking care of myself and was launched into another major depression. But it was a wake up call!  I went in search of help from online friends but out of the ones I did reach out to only a couple really responded to my asking for help. 

That launched my idea of making a site for moms who deal with depression or deal with other stresses to have a safe haven to come to share, talk and be able to talk about their feelings without being judged!
