Bikini Brazilian Wax

This may be a taboo topic for some of you to discuss with other moms, so here are some facts and information about the Bikini Brazilian Wax that will help you make the decision whether or not to try it.

Bikini Waxing Facts

There is a well-known bikini wax called, “The Brazilian Wax,” which began in the late 1980s.  The bikini waxing facts about this may or may not encourage you to try it. However, it does seem to be the most popular way to remove pubic hair today.

Professionally done in a salon, you are taken into a private room.  Removing your clothing from the waist down, including your underpants, you lie on a table, and are covered with a clean sheet or paper similar to the kind used in a doctor’s office.  Due to the fact that the bikini waxing can only be accomplished if the hair is a quarter of an inch in length, the professional may trim the hair to the desired length.

Next, the salon professional will dip a stick into the hot wax, and apply it to your skin and hair. A cloth strip will be placed over the wax so that it sticks to the hair.  When the wax has cooled, she will pull the strip off quickly, and at a 40 degree angle.  If there are any stray hairs, she will most likely use tweezers to pull them out, as well.

In addition, because this is a total waxing method to remove all hairs from the area, she will start from the front and move toward the back.  Once completed, lotion will be applied to the entire area.  You should also be aware that this may be painful, especially if this is your first time.  So too, you may experience ingrown hairs, bumps and redness.  However, if the salon professional has been well trained, she will advise what to do to alleviate the pain and redness.

The procedure takes about fifteen minutes, and could cost anywhere from $8.00 to $25.00, depending upon the chosen salon.  Once you begin this method of bikini waxing, you will need to repeat it every three weeks.

The Bikini Brazilian Wax method isn’t for everyone.  You may wish to purchase a bikini wax kit, and use the application in the privacy of your own home.  Before you do, however, you should not use certain products such as Retin A, since this tends to leave brown spots on your waxed skin.

Before you attempt any kind of waxing, know the bikini waxing facts, and research several salons to find someone who has expertise in this area.  It is certainly not advisable to use a nail salon professional for this purpose.  They are very good at facial hair removal, but that’s the extent of their expertise in this specific area.  There are salons that specialize in bikini waxing, and those are the establishments you should check.  Perhaps a friend can recommend one to you.  Remember, the rule of thumb is to know before you go.

Tips for Performing Your Own Bikini Brazilian Wax at Home

If you are not comfortable having a bikini wax at a salon, here are some tips for performing your own bikini wax in the comfort of your own home.

When purchasing a bikini wax kit at any pharmacy or drug store, ensure you read the directions carefully. Waxing consists of a mixture of wax, oil and resin, which is then applied directly over the hairs to be removed. Most kits come with a stick (similar to a tongue depressor) and a strip of cloth or muslin as well.  The wax is warmed and melted to a caramel-like texture. It is then spread over the area to be waxed. While the wax is still warm, the muslin or cotton cloth is put over the wax and pressed down. The wax is allowed to cool and then the cloth is pulled off quickly in the opposite direction of the hair growth. Hand pressure is then applied to the area for a few seconds to relieve discomfort.

In addition, this procedure will have to be done every 6 weeks. Before waxing, make sure the hairs are at least one-half inch above the skin. If you need to, carefully cut the hairs down to the appropriate length. Make sure the area is dry and free from any body oils. Therefore, a good tip is to wash and dry thoroughly. Since you are using this product for the first time, as with anything else, test it on your skin to ensure you are not allergic.

After the waxing has been completed, the area will be tender and irritated for a couple of hours. Ensure you have cream or an over-the-counter steroid which will alleviate the irritation.  Above all, make sure the wax is not too hot before applying it to the skin. Avoid exposure to the sun for at least 24 hours after which be sure to apply sun block.

While there is an ongoing debate as to whether or not to use hot or cold waxing (some prefer cold waxing at home), cold waxing may not be as effective since the wax may not adhere well to the thick hairs. The good news is that with every waxing, the hairs will become less brittle and the growth of the hair will eventually decrease.
